Second War On Gaza In The Making

In light of the anniversary of the Gaza War (Or should I say ''In dark"), talks of an impending second war with Gaza are being brought up. You would think that an underground steel barrier (Wall) implemented by the Egyptian and Israeli governments to put an end to "smuggling," would hinder this prospect - apparently not! Last year's war was due to apparent rocket launch attacks from Gaza breaching the two-year ceasefire with Israel that started it all. According to an article on Haaretz (You can read here), the potential war could be starting this Sunday. This should give segue way to President Obama's need to focus on this issue and its relative importance to stability in the region as soon as possible. The President better get to it in the next few days with some special analysis on why this may occur and why it happened before, before he ends up sending more money to fix the damage that could have been prevented. There are several predicaments in this issue such as Hamas and Egypt. Though Israel recognizes Hamas, they believe that:

"The State of Israel is not doing this to replace the regime in Gaza. The State of Israel is doing this because [of] a situation in which Hamas controls the Gaza Strip and the basis of its world view is to annihilate the State of Israel and to fire on schools and kindergartens and to carry out terror attacks in restaurants... For the State of Israel, it doesn't matter if Hamas calls itself a regime or a just a terror organization it's a terrorist organization in every way, and we must deal with it and annihilate it. "If, at the same opportunity, the moderates rise and come to power, that's good enough for us, we'll be pleased."

The New Barrier In Gaza

Luckily, the Obama Administration has some luck on its side if they try to negotiate with Israel since Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is widely disliked by people as well as the fact that he does not oblige by the White House's requests to freeze settlements in West Bank. Regardless, Israel is the most important part to the puzzle. Despite what the United States suggest, they will do as they please.

Starting with the Wall, I think it is a stupid thing that Egypt has planned. The Gaza refugees are not animals on a farm. This is very reminiscent to what was done to the South Africans during Apartheid. Yes, the underground tunnels are an issue for smuggling of arms; but when you close aid off to the Gazans, do you expect them to sit around and watch? Of course Hamas and the Palestinian refugees are going to rebel, it is only of human nature. Maybe if the neighboring Arab countries and Israel would stop treating them as third class citizens they would not be in this predicament. I also hear from other sources that there may be a start of another war with Lebanon, let's see if they either happen. I hope not, and that Obama can help make some real peace, not just hold a prize annotated to it. He needs to stop with the envoy stuff and take the reigns and guide the horse. It may sound like I am over-exaggerating, but if you study the treatment of the Palestinians as I have for the past several months, there can be a better understanding of how to terminate this issue. I'm currently in Washington working on a thesis for a conflict resolution proposal. If stuff hits the fan, you should be seeing me in front of White House or Israeli Embassy with a sign... I hope you do your part to research more on the subject and maybe try to participate in some non-violent protests.

Do you think Israel will attack?

You think Egypt is committing Apartheid? What a joke! They are the same people. Jimmy Carter apologized already, but you are so brainwashed that you used the same word because you were used to it. It never applied because any separation is not based on the color one's skin or one's family, but based of a worldview... and it this case it is a worldview of Hamas and Islam that believes it has a right to kill. you can't convince anyone when you use the word Apartheid anymore... that is unless they want to be enabled to be haters.

To the person that left the comment above.

Though the word "apartheid" may be incorrectly being used, in it's literal sense, to describe the situation in Gaza, the world can be given some leaway when using it. It is a familiar word and with some latitude it does describes what the Gazan's are facing under Israeli occupation.

Remember, the Dutch were invaders and occupiers of South Africa in the late 1700's and it took 300 years for a description, in a single word, of their attrocities to come about.

The last thing the Palestinians of Gaza need is people nit picking about a single word.
